Pep Boys, Valvoline Close the Loop

What is it? American auto parts retailer Pep Boys launched a promotion with Valvoline NextGen motor oil encouraging people to recycle used oil.

What makes it susty? Valvoline NextGen is made of 50% recycled motor oil. It uses 48% less fossil fuels, releases 40% fewer harmful emissions, and has 20% less global warming impact than non-recycled motor oil.

What makes it sexy? DIY gearheads who return their used motor oil to any Pep Boys store and purchase Valvoline NextGen receive a $20 gift card.

My verdict: We all know the internal combustion engine is bad. What I didn’t realise is that just one gallon of improperly disposed motor oil can contaminate one million gallons of drinking water. It won’t revolutionise transport, but Pep Boys now gives drivers an incentive to visit the store to return used oil, which Valvoline can recycle into new product. Not only is that a clever win-win-win, but lest anyone suspect Valvoline has prioritised polar bears over performance, it put NextGen through its paces at NASCAR.

I’m no auto enthusiast, but I think this is BOTH sexy and susty.
